Sin, Salvation & Eternal Life:

God, The Creator and Judge of all the earth is HOLY.  This means that "GOOD" is defined by God's character and attributes.  For example, God is true and cannot lie, so lying is sin. (Romans 3:4; Titus 1:2) Because of that, the ninth commandment says, "You shall not bear false witness."  (Exodus 20:16)

The Bible describes God's holiness in this way: "God is light and in Him is no darkness at all."

All humans are SINNERS.

The Bible is very clear on this.    "As it is written: 'There is none righteous, no, not one; There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God. They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one.'” (Romans 3:10-12)  And "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God."  (Romans 3:23)

Do you doubt that you, yourself, are a sinner?  Take this simple quiz.

If you have done even one of these things - even just one time - you have sinned against God.  "The wages of sin is death," the Bible says.  (Romans 6:23)  It also says, "The soul who sins shall die."  (Ezekiel 18:4)

You may not think you are "all that bad," but remember, God is not comparing you to other people.  God is comparing you to His own perfect holiness - demonstrated in the sinless life of Jesus Christ.  Unless you are perfectly without sin, you are guilty.  In the day of judgment, God the righteous Judge will sentence sinners to eternal punishment in the lake of fire.  (Revelation 20:12-15)

But there is tremendous good news for sinners!

"Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners." (1 Timothy 1:15). "And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins." (Matthew 1:21). "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! (John 1:29).

You cannot save yourself. But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away. (Isaiah 64:6)....for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified. (Galatians 2:16).

Salvation is provided by the gift of God. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16).  "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."  (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Christ offered Himself as the sacrifice for our sins. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (2Corinthians 5:21). ...who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness--by whose stripes you were healed. (1Peter 2:24).

Christ came back from the dead to prove His victory over death and hell.    "...It shall be imputed to us who believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification."  (Romans 4:24-25)  "...if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9)

Salvation is offered to those who repent of their sin and trust in Christ. "Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out..."  (Acts 3:19) "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved." (Acts 16:31)  "He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” (John 3:36)

This is not accomplished through some sort of religious ritual, or prayer, or good deed on your part, but in a private transaction between you and God - in your innermost being.  Salvation is by God's grace, received by faith in Christ's work on the cross.

Do you believe God has provided salvation through Jesus Christ?  Are you willing to turn to Jesus and trust in His finished work on the cross?  Do you believe that He can provide you with everlasting life by the same power that brought Him back from the dead?

Take God at His word!  Put your trust in Jesus Christ and give yourself to God as a follower of Jesus Christ.

Have you called on the Lord for salvation from your sins? For "whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved." (Romans 10:13)  The scripture says,  "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."  (1John 1:9)
